5 packaging tips that prevent damage — and disputes

Good packaging is not just about protecting your parcel. It's the foundation of a dispute-free delivery.

1. Double-box fragile items

Place the item in a snug inner box, fill with bubble wrap, then place in a larger outer box. The air gap between boxes absorbs shock during handling. A single box — no matter how thick — is rarely enough.

2. Remove old labels

Old shipping labels with barcodes can confuse airport scanners and cause your parcel to be misrouted. Remove all previous labels before handing over.

3. Seal all edges with tape

Use H-taping: apply tape along the centre seam and then fold tape over all four edges of the box lid. This significantly reduces the chance of the box opening under pressure.

4. Include contents on a note inside

Put a small piece of paper inside listing the contents and your contact details. If the outer label becomes detached, this gives the traveller a way to identify and return the parcel.

5. Photograph before handover

Take clear photos of the parcel before handover — showing the packaging, the contents (if the parcel is open), and the condition of the outer box. These photos protect you in the unlikely event of a damage dispute.

Properly packaged parcels account for less than 0.3% of our dispute cases. The investment of 10 minutes in good packaging is almost always worth it.
